Dr. Ronald Thibert Answers Your Questions
Dr. Ronald Thibert Answers Your Questions about LGIT? Q We have one question for Dr. Thibert. our daughter started the diet in October 2012 and after about 5 weeks she was seizures free. 3 months later her neurologist decided to lower her medication but because of this her absences came back. When is the best time to start lowering the meds? She is in ketosis and we are really careful that she gets the good ratio. A That is a great question. There is no clear answer but we usually wait 6-12 months before coming off medication after the diet begins – similar to what we would do if we added a…

Boost the Immune System
By Sybille Kraft Bellamy The human digestive tract contains about 500 types of probiotic bacteria. These “good” or “friendly” bacteria help support the growth and repopulation of the healthy gut flora in the lower gastrointestinal tract. They protect against “bad” or pathogenic bacteria and help the gut immune system to develop. Healthy bacteria also produce essential vitamins, which have an important nutritional value. To keep our children’s gut flora healthy and populated with probiotic bacteria, it is essential to give them a diet rich in prebiotic food. Prebiotics are non-digestible food ingredients, which feed the probiotic bacteria that live in our digestive tract. It is key to vary food choices…

Emergency Preparedness For Children With Special Needs That Follow A Therapeutic Diet
By Sybille Kraft Bellamy When Hurricane Sandy hit the East Coast in 2012 we lost electricity for 5 days and were under a curfew for a week with limited access to our regular food sources of supply. My son Max celebrated his 11 birthday with candles, a lot of candles! Candles were the main source of light in our kitchen. We used our generator for most of the day to recharge our laptop, phone, fridge, and to keep our furnace going. We had known for days that our area would be in the storm’s path. We were not particularly concerned by the flooding because we are located on a hill,…

Angel Lina’s Testimony – LGIT
Lina’s Mom shares with us the success on LGIT and GFCF diet. Lina and her family are from Germany this article features both languages. Our angel Lina (deletion class 2) will soon turn 4. For her first 3 years of life, she was able to develop well without epilepsy. Right around her third birthday, epilepsy started with first febrile seizures. We started the LGIT diet in November of 2012 as well as treatment with Frisium due to many myoclonic seizures and developmental stagnation. In addition, in April we went gluten free and reduced casein intakes significantly. Ever since, Lina is doing well and of her myoclonic seizures not much is noticeable.…
